The magazine

Three editions of the official NASTA magazine, Supporting Learning, will be published each year. Editions of the magazine will contain articles written by both Dave Vizard, Editor and Chair of the Association and from other experienced professionals on relevant up to date subjects of interest to Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors, including:

•  Behaviour management
•  Strategies to support pupils’ learning
•  Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor management and professional development issues
•  Understanding and supporting students with syndromes and conditions
•  Real life stories of Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors
•  Latest research findings which help your work in the classroom
•  Responses to issues raised by Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors in e-mails to the editor

About the Editor

Dave is an experienced teacher with over 30 years experience in a range of schools in urban and rural contexts. For 13 years, as a Senior Manager and Head of Upper School, he has developed a range of initiatives relating to Positive Behaviour Management. For 2 years he has held a Local Authority Advisory Post for Behaviour Management.

Dave has lectured for 6 years on the Foundation degree course for Teaching Assistants at the University of Plymouth. He has also provided ‘train the trainer’ training for the Learning and Skills Development Agency and has spoken at many National Conferences including those for National Association of Special Educational Needs (NASEN) and Social, Emotional and Behaviour Difficulties Association (SEBDA). He is an affiliated Behaviour Management Consultant for Teach First and inputs to their National Conferences.

He has written extensively on Behaviour Management and has 15 books published to date. Two of his latest are ‘An Emergency Kit for Cover Supervisors’ and ‘Meeting the Needs of Disaffected Students – Engaging Students with Social, Emotional and Behaviour Difficulties’.

Dave is Chair of the National Association for School Teaching Assistants (NASTA) and Editor of their magazine – Supporting Learning. He has extensive experience of training and supporting the work of Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors.
