BTEC Certificate for Teaching Assistants (level 2)

Nasta in association with SfE is proud to offer an Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Certificate for Teaching Assistants. The course is wholly online and is designed for people who are working, or are considering working, as a Teaching Assistant.

Today the role of the Teaching Assistant is vast. Teaching Assistants can be involved in supporting whole class activities or working with individual learners. In helping to plan resources, lessons, differentiated activities, recording and assessing learners, Teaching Assistants are increasingly taking on a multiplicity of roles and responsibilities within educational institutions. Teaching Assistants today are encouraged to develop their professional standing by gaining one of the qualifications that are available. This programme allows you to do that.

Upon successful completion of the programme you will be awarded:
The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Certificate for Teaching Assistants at pass, merit or distinction level.

You will find that the package contains information about the various aspects of education that a Teaching Assistant might be involved in when carrying out their role together with activities and assessments for you to complete. The activities are important as they constitute part of your learning, and allow you to develop your skills and awareness.

The programme has four parts:

Unit 1: The learning environment
Unit 2: Supporting classroom practices
Unit 3: Supporting oracy, literacy and numeracy
Unit 4: Supporting children’s welfare and well-being

At the end of each section in Units 1, 3 and 4 there is an internal assessment for you to complete and send to your tutor for marking. Unit 2 is assessed by a BTEC externally set assignment.

The assessment for the unit is based on your work as Teaching Assistant. This programme will involve reflection on your role, responsibilities and actions as a Teaching Assistant.
